It needs a lot of adjustment processing to make one person adopt the environment that he/she have. Being with people who have different culture from yours is also one of the factors that could turn a person to feel nostalgic. This situation is mostly strikes on exchange students. Since most of these students are sent abroad to study and learn something in a particular country. However, you should also remember what would be the consequences you could meet studying abroad. Not all exchange students are successful in their journey abroad, because some of them are having difficulties in dealing with people who have different ways of life. Unless this student knows how to develop its personal growth, chances are big that this particular student will be molded into a better person.
One thing that would drastically change the student’s personality is how to adjust being away from their love-ones during holiday celebration, especially during Christmas holiday season. It would be the hardest thing that student should readying however, to get into this student who were willing to be away from their love-ones just to study abroad should follow some of these tips (especially the parents).
-
As a parent, try to talk with your kid who was engaged in the study abroad programs together with your entire family members about your traditions. It would be nice for you and for your kid to have a closer connection not only for both of you but for the entire family. This could give big impact to your kid, an inspiration that he/she could bear when he/she is already abroad.
-
If your child is already abroad and when holiday is near approaching try to give them a call. Ask them what the preparations they have for the coming holiday. If they hear familiar voices especially hearing the voices of their parents, they would feel a little bit comfortable and at ease.
-
And for the international student, be broadminded. If ever you were already abroad, don’t think of celebrating holidays away from home negatively. Just bear in mind that holidays could be celebrated anywhere in many ways not just like what your family used to celebrated. After your journey abroad, this holiday tradition that you had learned could be a unique holiday celebration to your family in the next holiday season.
