“If the legislative leaders have just been immersed in the Exchange program… they had made laws that are world and culturally friendly to everybody. They had made decisions that understand the difference between cultures. Leaders that made decisions involving millions of lives had understood the many diverse cultures that surround them and had acted differently.”

Exchange program is originally was “exchanging of students” from two counties or more. Yet, now days a trade off of students between countries is not necessary anymore; it is now a program in which a student learn, study and live and in a foreign country even without a trade off of students.

  • Learning and understanding culture. Gaining a broader perspective of the world and thus having empathy of a culture is just one of the personal gains in exchange program. A personal point of view and a very sympathetic one at that help the world gain peace. We could not gain peace in which people who talks about attaining it does not even know and sympathizes on the diversity of culture in this world. Encouraging teenagers to participate in exchange program is like encouraging future leaders to know the diverse culture to able to make regulations that understand diverse culture. If majority of the youth today has the interest and capacity of participating in exchange program then we are like opening the whole nation to openness and working on differences between countries. In participating in the community, in doing what they are doing and in making lasting friendship and correspondence in the host country is a way of immersing students in the host country’s culture. A first hand experience of the other culture; of feeling what they feel, of knowing their concerns, of knowing their aspirations, meeting their families and going through what they encounter can make a very radical difference of ones perspective and personality.
  • Acquiring Social Awareness. Social Awareness is being conscious, aware and sensitive of the day-to-day problems of the society; the society’s concern and difficulties. Exchange programs in students can make them aware of their responsibility as a student and as a part of the society. When exchange students live in a host family, they integrate themselves on the family and became temporarily part of it. By doing so, they become aware of the inner concerns of the family as part of the race and global community.
  • Improving on International Relationships. One of the aims of exchange programs is on enhancing the relationship between countries. As countries both take good care of the foreign exchange programs they tend to communicate and negotiate better. The ties between countries became stronger as their youth participate on knowing the culture they would be immersing themselves with.

  • Personal Growth. Personal growth is gaining maturity, responsibility and independence. Living away from the support network of family and friends but with the support of the program representative and really make you grow as an individual. As you grow it prepares one students to be ready for college and take on college life’s responsibility. A student who participates on career program has more possibility of finishing college, according to studies made by universities.
  • Learn a new Foreign Language. The best way to learn a new language is communicating with it 24/7 (24/7 means 24 hours a day and 7 days a week) and through exchange program. In exchange program there is a possibility of taking and learning on your subjects through the foreign language. And what is great about this is some colleges will grant credit for ‘advanced 2nd language skills’ gained abroad.
